2006 Bonneville Black Conversion
Another look at a classic Hinckley...
A pleasing mix of classic and modern styling and perfomance
The starting point for this project
was a stock 2006 Triumph
Bonneville Black. Our goal was to
significantly lighten the bike and
improve the handling. Engine
development was purposely kept to
a minimum, and limited to improved
intake, ignition and exhaust.
A full Meriden fairing was
in the mix from the
beginning, with our tank
and custom seat and
front fender naturally
following; all carbon fiber
in construction. The
front end was lifted
complete from a Suzuki
GSXR 750, providing
brake calipers, USD
forks, yokes, hand
controls and switch craft.
The wheels are provided
by Carrozzerria and are
17 inch front and rear.
This saves a whopping
26 pounds of rotating
weight!
More weight savings
were achieved by
eliminating the lower
frame loop.
A light weight support
frame was added to
support the lower
fairing. A carbon fiber
drive sprocket cover
replaces the stock
one. Foot controls
started with the
Loaded Gun universal
sets, with custom
mounts fabricated in
our shop.
The dash is simplified,
using an all-in-one
electronic instrument
pod mounted to a
carbon fiber plate.
Ignition is keyless,
using only a toggle, and
an electronic security
device. The main
harness was simplified
and adapted to the
Suzuki switches. We
eliminated 1 1/2 pounds
of wire. Note our
steering damper.
The paint is Performance white with areas of open weave carbon offset by
gold pinstripe. The tail light is integrated into the seat, with the lens covered
by a thin scrim of carbon, making it only visible when the bike is turned on.
